Heavy Industry Interiors

Curating and creating beautiful spaces for heavy industry—Fremont CA and Federal Way, WA

These two locations had unique challenges for design and creative direction. With the first 3 images, the ask was to deliver a showroom experience that was sturdy, strong and not too cold or industrial as many heavy equipment showrooms can be. This had been attempted by 3 different artists and directors prior to me. To date, this client had utilized rather traditional showroom designs and elements. I leaned into elements I knew and trusted; bold graphics design, geometric shapes and bold color usage, beautiful photography and wood. I designed all the art element arrangements, the wood installations, designed the app that runs on a portrait mounted 60” touch screen and challenged as many of the preconceived ideas of a heavy equipment showroom I could without offending the client. This was the result.

Following the success of Fremont, CA. The client challenged me again with a materials request; liberal use of juniper wood in the next design. The last 4 images show how I was able to take this challenge and apply the same design approach with an entirely different material and also stay on brand for the client.

This video is an overview of this new facility. I was privileged to have planned, designed and developed all of the interior artwork, art installations and signage for this entire facility.
